Using the
Cleancut Shavers
Step 1:
Trimming
Use an
electric hair
trimmer like our
PS335 to cut the hair to "stubble length." Note that here we
are talking about trimmers and not shavers, but you'll need both.
The trimmer is used to cut the long pubic hair down to about the
length of a man's 1-2 day beard. This is the secret of the first
shave, and we can't stress enough that the stubble left behind by
the trimmer has to be very short. While the
Cleancut does an incredible job of smoothing stubble, it will not
cut longer hair because it was not designed to. Originally, the
Cleancut was designed as a face shaver and that gives you an idea of
how short the hair needs to be. If your hair is really long and/or
thick and "hangs up" in your trimmer, use a pair of scissors to mow
the bush down to a 1/2 inch or so. Then follow up with the trimmer
to get the hair to "stubble length."
You can
use any hair trimmer that you think will work. We've found that some
of the beard trimmers are pretty decent and have the added advantage
of different length-cutting guides to help you trim any bush you
choose to leave behind. Be especially careful of your trimmer's open
blade array, and pay particular attention to the inner beaver lips
or the testicles because if loose skin gets trapped between the
inner and outer cutting teeth, you'll experience a nasty nick. Use
your fingers to pull the skin tight while drawing the cutting head
over it. With most trimmers (except our
PS335), you don't want the metal blades in contact with
your skin, especially sensitive areas or areas with loose skin. It's
a catch-22, because you still need to trim the hair to really short
stubble length. Of course, if you don't want to run the risk of
being cut or nicked on your beaver (or balls), consider getting our
PS335. (Shameless Plug)
Step 2: Shaving
Always shave dry with
the Cleancut, and while you can theoretically use it directly on
dry skin, we strongly recommend using a little corn starch based
baby powder. It acts like a dry lubricant, letting the head
glide smoothly over the skin. Don't use too much, though,
because it will choke up the shaver. After a few uses, you'll
start to get a feel for how much you need. The powder can be
applied by hand, makeup brush, or even mustache (kinda fun).
Don't use talcum powder instead! There are health risks
involved. Tastes bad and is bad for you...please avoid it. We
include a 3 oz. bottle of Medical Grade Cornstarch Based Dry
Lubricant free with every Cleancut we sell.
As the
Cleancut glides over the skin, stubble enters thru the square-shaped
holes in the shave head. The rotating blades and the square holes
form a triangle that captures the hair and shaves it smoothly. It is
this ability to capture and cut hairs (and not skin) that is one of
the most noticeable differences between the genuine Cleancut and
other pubic area shavers on the market. Manufacturing the foil
portion of a shave head is much more exacting and technical than it
appears. It is an incredibly tough engineering feat to design a
shave head with a hole design that will allow hair in, but not the
soft skin of the beaver region. Clever design coupled with advanced
manufacturing techniques are the secret. The Chinese shavers on the
market have a simple press-punched foil head, but the Cleancut uses
a much more costly (proprietary) etching process to manufacture of
their foils.
Fear not
the nasty bits. The Cleancut's quality construction and proprietary
design means that it can be used directly on just about any surface.
The inner vaginal lips, testicles, or any other particularly
sensitive, hard-to-shave area are completely safe. Don't try it on
your tongue, though. Don't ask how we know.
Remember,
the Cleancut shaver will not cut longer hair, nor will any
other shaver on the market. Run a Braun, Remington or what have you
shaver over your head (assuming you have hair there) and see what
happens....nothing. If the Cleancut isn't doing a great job, you've
left the hair too long and need to break out the old trimmer again.
The stubble needs to be very, very short.
Here are a
few hints:
- Shaving the pubic area isn't quick. I've had worse jobs, but
it is a project. Still, this is one of those
projects where it really is easier to have an assistant. "Many
hands make light work." If you are the "shavee," you physically
can't bend over far enough to get "down there." It's better to
have a friend help, especially for the first shave and in
particular the trimming. It can be done solo, but what are
friends for?
-
Some pubic hair
grows tightly against, almost parallel to, the skin. When
the head of the Cleancut goes over these hairs, it sometimes
fails to pick up the hair and cut it. By using your fingers
to squeeze the skin into a fold, you can effectively "lift"
the end of these hairs off the skin along the curved portion
of the fold, allowing the Cleancut to mow down those problem
hairs.
- The more times and
the more directions you go over the area, the smoother it will
be. Vary the downward pressure (you don't need much) and try a
rotating, circular motion. You will hear the blade actually
cutting the hairs. When the sound of cutting hair gets
infrequent, you are probably done (kind of like microwave
popcorn, eh?)
Step 3: Maintenance
Daily maintenance is
the name of the game. Make it a part of your routine, and you will
be thrilled with the results. If you do it every day, you can lick
it in 2-5 minutes; however, if you wait an extra day, you will spend
considerably more time sweating over it. Wait much longer and you'll
be breaking out the old trimmer again.
If you are the "shavee"
and are maintaining it yourself (and maybe a little
obsessive-compulsive to boot), think about having a friend do a
"close-up" inspection every week or two to check for new stragglers.
You'll swear you got every one of them, but you'll always miss a few
because some pubic hairs lay so close and tight against the skin
that you can't see or feel them unless you get up close and
personal. Use a flashlight and some
small scissors (be careful!) to cut these little rascals down to
stubble, and then finish them off with the Cleancut. And remember,
the more times and the more directions you go over the area, the
smoother it will be.
Maintenance also includes taking care of in-grown hairs and razor
bumps. If you've had them before, or think you might be prone to
them, apply some of our PFB Vanish. A little goes a long
way (like months). It really works! In fact, it works so well that
it's hard to keep in stock. The number one question we're asked is
what to do about in-grown hairs, and while PFB Vanish will help
correct an existing case, it is at it's best when used from the
get-go. No hype, you really should get some.
